‘The Portimao test will be to prepare the GP more than anything else’ – Aleix Espargaro

The last MotoGP pre-season tests will be at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in march, a few days before the Portuguese GP that opens the season on the same stage. It is known that this is a circuit that is different from almost all the others, with its constant ups and downs and some virtually unique corners – which leads Aleix Espargaro, from Aprilia, to say that the tests will mainly serve to prepare the opening round of 2023.

Manuel Pecino addressed the spaniard about the fact that the Algarve track has very peculiar characteristics and is not the best to work on the bike. Espargaro confirmed this thesis, explaining that the test will be, above all, to prepare for the Portuguese GP. Still, he said that in terms of aerodynamics it is a useful circuit:

– The truth is, it is an unusual circuit where there is practically no load on the front, but then you have a very strong braking on the way down to turn one where you load the forks. So we have a bit of a strange set-up to be able to work in different positions on the bike. I think that for the aerodynamic load and for the wings it is one of the most important circuits, for sure, and in that sense we have news on Aprilia to test there. But it will almost be preparing the Grand Prix more than anything else.
