Indian Motorcycle, America’s premier motorbike company, today unveiled its most aggressive reiteration of the iconic Indian Chief with the launch of the Sport Chief. Based on one of the most historic and eminent namesake motorbikes of all time, the 2023 Sport Chief raises the bar for American V-Twin performance cruisers through premium performance-oriented components and timeless American style.
In designing the Sport Chief, Indian Motorcycle focused on performance, using top-of-the-line components from proven brands. With KYB inverted front forks, also fitted to Indian Challenger models, the Sport Chief delivers superior handling and riding performance. The Sport Chief’s radial-mount Brembo two disc, semi-floating, four-piston caliper brakes deliver confidence-inspiring braking efficiency, FOX Piggyback rear shocks increase travel to 100mm and pitch angle to 29.5 degrees compared to other Indian Chief models. The result is an Indian Chief that’s ideal for more aggressive riding and delivers the confidence and capability to lead to a good riding experience.

With a simple tubular steel frame, the Sport Chief preserves the mechanical styling of the Indian Chief. At the heart of it all is a blacked-out Thunderstroke 116 engine delivering 162 Nm of torque, while a new headlight fairing and new handlebars with machined steering tables and 152mm risers set the Sport Chief apart from the rest of the Indian Chief model range. With centrally mounted control pedals and an individual gunfighter-style seat, riders are left in a commanding yet comfortable position. The Sport Chief is equipped with sporty cast wheels wrapped by Pirelli Night Dragon tyres, a 15.1-litre fuel tank, slashed rear mudguard, dual exhausts, LED lighting, keyless ignition and three selectable riding modes namely Sport, Standard and Tour.
The ride optimisation technology is there from the factory with Indian Motorcycle’s class-leading 101mm touchscreen with RIDE COMMAND. Via the handlebar controls or digital touchscreen display, riders can quickly access multiple interfaces, including two different instrument settings, motorbike and riding information, and turn-by-turn navigation*. If the rider uses a wireless helmet communicator, they can control their music on the RIDE COMMAND system after pairing their phone via Bluetooth or USB. Drivers can also access their phone’s information, including recent calls, contacts, keypad and text message history. Once connected, incoming calls will appear and can be accepted or rejected directly through the RIDE COMMAND system.

For riders who wish to personalise their bike, Indian Motorcycle offers a range of accessories that optimise the performance and comfort of the motorbike, or give it a personal style. The 2023 Sport Chief is available in Black Smoke, Ruby Smoke and Stealth Gray.
